Patient Walkthrough
The patient's first visit will be made during the weekday in order to register with the Hurtt Family Clinic and schedule an appointment for the Saturday UC Irvine Outreach Clinic. At this first meeting, we will asses the patient's eligibility for the Medical Services Initiative (MSI) Program, a form of government-funded insurance for those in need in Orange County. If patients do qualify for MSI, they can be seen at any community clinic that accepts MSI. In fact, they will be able to make an appointment with the Hurtt Family Clinic directly, if they so wish. If patients do not qualify for MSI and cannot afford private insurance, they will be able to make a Saturday appointment with the UC Irvine Outreach Clinics.
On Saturdays, patients can expect professional clinical treatment. Patients will be seen by a nursing student and be interviewed and examined by two medical students. After patients are seen by the medical students, they will be assessed by an attending physician, who will order all necessary labs and prescribe necessary medications. Most blood draws and labs will be done on site and patients will be asked to make a follow-up appointment to review their results. Costs for medications will be covered by clinic funds, but we will also be utilizing low-cost pharmacy programs and patient assistant programs to supplement our limited resources. Finally, patients will usually be scheduled for follow-up visits to asses progress and for refilling prescriptions.
